Even though most everything about the upcoming Maze Runner movie is under lock and key, we did get a very interesting tidbit of info today from author James Dashner’s blog.
Everything is pretty tight-lipped right now, but all I can tell you is what is public knowledge. Wes Ball is directing, The Gotham Group is producing, 20th Century Fox is the studio, and the film is in pre-production. And the casting process has begun. If you are an interested actor and you know what you’re doing, you probably already know this.
Sounds pretty interesting. James has said that he could see Joel Courtney, who played the main character in the 2011 movie Super 8, cast as Thomas. Authors usually don’t have a huge say in who is cast in their book’s movie, but his wishes may be seriously considered.
What do you think? Last summer you voted for who you think should play each character. You can see the final results in video form here. Do you still agree with last years’s polls, or do you side with James, the very person who invented Thomas? Sound off in the comments.
We’re just about a month away from the release of ‘The Kill Order’ *excited scream* and James Dashner is giving you and I a chance to win an advanced reader copy *falls out of chair*. Today James gave us a challenge on his blog: Tell him why you need an ARC. He will then pick five people to have the chance to read the book a little earlier than everyone else. You can find all of the details on his latest blog post.
James Dashner may also have a book out by the time you read this! If you are a fan of his series The 13th Reality you will be really happy in a few days at most. ‘The Void of Mist and Thunder’, the fourth and final book in the series, will be in your favorite e-book store very soon.
The book’s release date has been delayed several times and will only be available in e-book format until later this fall when you can buy the hardback version. According to James, you will be able to buy the book on your Kindle tonight and on every other device in the next couple of days.
Are you excited for either of these books? I know I am! How about telling us your favorite James Dashner book in this poll?
If you have been reading any of the articles here in the Maze Runner sector lately, you have definitely read me rambling on about James’s new website that was coming sometime in the future. Well, I hope you weren’t too attached to the the old blog because it is long gone. Earlier today, James Dashner’s new website was launched!
I have to say, this new site is a whole lot cleaner and easier to use than the old one. Right from the home screen you can choose to visit a section about James, about his books (All of his series from the completed Jimmy Fincher Saga to the upcoming Infinity Ring series.), or the redesigned blog. You can also go to pages that lists where James will be next and how you can contact him, all with a sleek style and an epic background picture.
While James is getting a new website, our admins are putting plans into action. Please stay tuned and give us your input on our new projects and endeavors!
You asked and James Dashner has answered. This past week he has blogged the answers of five new fan submitted questions including the reason behind the Glader’s slang, where he writes his books to how he got his big break.
When asked about where and how he writes:
I always, always type and edit my books on my laptop. Using the good old-fashioned Word. Nothing fancy. I love being able to take my job anywhere I like, from the mountains to a library to a bookstore to my backyard. And my office, of course. I have an author friend who writes her books out longhand before entering them into a computer. Ugh. I could never do that!!!
His “Big Break”:
How did I get my big break? That’s a great question. It seems like any successful author had a few lucky breaks and I’m no exception. I started with a small publisher, moved to a medium-sized one, then got on with Random House. Each step can be traced back eventually to someone I met at a conference or something like that.
And that ever popular Glade lingo:
hanks for asking about the slang in THE MAZE RUNNER. That was a lot of fun to create. Basically, it had two purposes:
1. To show that this was taking place in a different time and to give their language its own flavor.
2. To give their words a harshness – to match their environment – without getting banned from every school in the world. It wouldn’t have made much sense for Minho to say, “Gee darn golly, there’s a goshdang Griever up there!” I was being practical.
To read the rest of the this delightful Q&A give jamesdashner.com a visit. Speaking of James’s blog, you won’t be able to see it in its current state much longer! in the next two-three weeks jamesdashner.com will and get a total makeover become a “professional-looking” website.
I know that much hasn’t been going on here, but us admins have plans brewing. Stay tuned over the coming weeks…..
This past week was so crazy for me I missed not one, but TWO blog posts from James Dashner, both with some great information. Because of the size the post would be if I shoved them together, I’m going to make each of James’s posts a separate post here.
Last Friday, he revealed that he is getting a new website fairly soon (about a month and a half from now). If I had to guess, I would say that it would be a bit more organized than the blog he is using now. (Trust me, you don’t want a friend yelling at you after she couldn’t find the section of the blog you told her to find for her essay research!)
The other thing he mentioned was that the fourth and final book in The 13th Reality series will be titled The Void of Mist and Thunder. I believe that this name may have been mentioned by James a while ago, because I heard this same name being bounced around before.
Before I finish this post, I would like to apologize that neither of the posts today will be about The Maze Runner. Right now, you do just about anything and you hear about The Hunger Games. I know that if you are reading this right now you have either read The Hunger Games or knows somebody who has read them. This is you challenge: go up to somebody who loves The Hunger Games and let them know about this wonderful book called The Maze Runner. The more people love everything Maze Runner-> the more likely Maze Runner will have the same fate as The Hunger Games -> the more Maze Runner news there will be -> the more posts I write -> the more posts you can read! Everyone wins!
Stay tuned, because I will be posting about the Infinity Ring book 1 cover! As always, the comments are below!
This morning at 9:00 EST, James Dashner revealed the cover of the prequel to the Maze Runner trilogy, “The Kill Order”. (I’m deeply sorry that I’m posting it this late, I’ve had school all day.) So, without further ado….
The cover was designed by Philip Straub, who also designed the covers for every book in the original trilogy.
Stay tuned, because tomorrow I will devour the cover and post my reactions. Want in on the fun? Leave a comment on this post with your reactions before 4:00 EST and it may just be included in tomorrow’s post!
In his latest blog post, James Dashner (the author of our beloved Maze Runner Trilogy, if you didn’t already know) catches us up and fills us in on what he’s been doing and what he’s looking forward to in 2012.
There’ll be a new, and amazing, James Dashner website debuting in a couple of months. A place for all of us to gather. And maybe this is the year that the movie gets green lit for production. Who knows? And I might even have a new book written that you don’t know about yet. Lots of fun things to come.
We learn bunches of new stuff including what James is reading, what he is watching and what movies he is dying to see. We also learn some details about the cover for The Kill Order and where you can order books signed by the Dashner Dude himself. The entire blog can be found here at http://www.jamesdashner.com/.
